Choosing a Double Pram and Pushchair
A double pram can make life easier for families, particularly in busy shopping centers or on busy streets. Choose a model with ample storage space to store nappies, snacks, and other essentials.
Some parents who are new to the world choose a pushchair that is future-proof and can be used as a single stroller once baby is born, and then converted to a twin mode after he or she arrives. Joolz offers a range of choices.
Tandem
The announcement that you're expecting a child is among the most exciting events in life. However, after the excitement fades and the reality sets in, you could be faced with a variety of choices regarding how to prepare your family for the arrival of your new one or one. One of the most important considerations is choosing the right pram or pushchair.
Tandem prams, also referred to as "in-line" double prams are a classic style with two seats or bassinets placed side-by-side. The front seat, which is usually cushioned, reclines flat and is suitable for babies. The second seat is a bit higher and designed to fit toddlers as young as 3 years. Some models let you choose whether your children look at each other or outwards. Many tandems can be converted to a single pushchair when your oldest child is no longer required to have the second seat.
In terms of price the tandem is cheaper than a twin pushchair and can be an excellent choice for parents looking to save money without compromising on safety or convenience. However, one disadvantage of a tandem is that it can be a bit heavy and lengthy to steer especially when going up or down kerbs. It is usually less stable than a twin pushchair, especially if the child who is older is seated at the front. A tandem can be difficult to fit onto public transport and can be difficult to navigate on narrow pavements.
The iCandy Peach is a popular model that is a good option for a single parent who wants something streamlined however, the tandem mode can make it feel long and heavy when pushing. It has an expanded frame that increases in width to accommodate the second seat. It can be used with a variety of combinations of buggy seats, car seats and carrycots (two at one time or in separate). The iCandy Wave tandem is another lightweight option that is easy to use and compatible with a variety of car seats or carrycots.
Side by side
When it comes to choosing a double pram or pushchair there's a lot to think about. There are numerous configuration options to choose from, regardless of whether you're buying for twins or close-in-age siblings. Tandem prams, also referred to as side-by-side prams, are popular options because they can be set up so that the infant is able to sit in the bassinet in the middle while the toddler or older child is seated in the second seat.
Some models have reversible seats that let you customize the seating arrangement for your family throughout the infant and toddler years. This allows you to keep your little ones in sight at all times and also gives them the chance to interact with one another as they walk.

Tandem prams are usually jogging buggies or all-terrain ones, which means they're ideal for outdoor excursions and the park. They're also a great option when you have to traverse narrow aisles in the supermarket or at checkouts, as they're generally smaller than single-seaters.
The Redsbaby JIVE3 Pram, for instance can be used as a tandem pram from birth in the dual mode by adding the use of the rumble seat (PS249). When your child grows out of the rumble chair you can change to a single pram mode. You may also opt to make use of the car capsule adaptors to transform it from a newborn into a toddler travel system.
The Side by Side Pram from Babybee is a different alternative. This side-by-side double pram is available in a range of colors and features a beautiful modern style. It is designed to be used from birth, you can also add the LUNA newborn cocoon (PS262) or the LUNA infant seats (PS53 each) to ensure your children are secure and comfortable.
If you're looking for a sleek, stylish pushchair that converts into a double-sided side-by-side and a side-by-side double, the Egg 2 from Chicco is a great option. It's available in a range of infant seat and carrycot configurations to accommodate twins or siblings of varying age groups and is easy to fold. It's also lightweight and therefore a good option for people with little space in their cars or don't have enough space to store.
Convertible
Some of the top double pushchairs or prams can be configured into different seats to accommodate your changing needs. There is the possibility of fitting two toddlers in a seat or a third child on the seat board and have room for a shopping basket and the option to add accessories like rain covers is another benefit. Typically, convertible double strollers are more spacious and heavier than single pushchairs because they must be capable of holding two or more children. The Graco Modes Nest2Grow convertible is an example of a very affordable convertible that is simple to use. However, our testers considered it to be quite heavy for its price.
Some convertible double strollers like the Baby Jogger City Select 2 comes with a carrycot which is suitable for babies. This reduces the size of the double stroller when not in use, and makes it smaller. double pram and pushchair were awed by the City Select's clever one-handed fold. However, it does take a bit of practice. It's also extremely fluid and agile in spite of its size.
The Cybex Mockingbird single-to-double stroller is another option that is reasonably priced. It can be converted from a car seat with a parent seat to a forward-facing toddler seat and the bassinet option is a great option for infants (although be aware that babies younger than four months old shouldn't sleep in strollers because of the risk of asphyxia in a position).
For greater flexibility, opt for a convertible that has dual modes like the iCandy Peach. This is a narrow double buggy which can accommodate two children side-by-side and can be used as a tandem by the addition of a second seat kit and rider board. It is responsive and nimble, and our testers liked its sleek design. It's not as lightweight as some of the other models on our list but it has a large basket that's ideal for parents who have to carry bags full of toys and food items.
Lightweight
Convertible double strollers are an excellent option for parents who have a child and expect to have another. The iCandy Peach can be converted from a single pushchair double by the addition of a toddler's seat or the brand's carrycot (which works well for overnight sleeping). The seats are very comfortable and our testers appreciate that they can be reclined in multiple positions. They also like the fact that the canopy has a peekaboo window and UPF 50+ protection. The rear seat can be raised to provide a standing platform for the child to climb off and on, so that they can reach things in the shopping basket.
Cher said that the only disadvantage of the iCandy Peach was its weight. However, she believed that this was compensated for because it is easy to move and offers plenty of storage space with two cup holders for parents and children, seat-back pockets, and an enormous basket underneath the seat. She also appreciated the feature that the seats are reversible, so they can be set to face each other for siblings that want to talk and get together while out and out and about.
A lighter and equally impressive choice is the Delta Children LX side-by-side stroller, which weighs only 18 lbs, is super compact and has a self-standing fold that makes it easy to transport and store in your trunk or at home. Parents appreciate the high-quality materials and workmanship, as well as the affordable cost. The only drawbacks are that the seats don't recline as much compared to other models we've tried and the rear seat is not as prominent because of its position - it is raised higher than the first seat.
The Joolz Geo 3 is another popular choice. It is slim, sleek and easy to steer and comes with a lifetime guarantee. Although they are smaller, side-by-side prams can still be larger than tandems and inline doubles. This makes them difficult to maneuver around busy footpaths and in shops. They're also shorter and therefore more maneuverable in tight spaces.
